BOROUGH HEALTH REPORT.

The Sanitary Inspector reported to the Council on Monday exoept for measles, no case of infectious disease had been reported in the borough. He had disinfected two houses where scarlet fever had existed, and at the tt quest of Mr Oollis he had disinfected two of the pub'ic schools and outbuildings—a very necessary work—which he hoped would tend to check, if not to stop altogether, the spread of measles. Several householders had been notified of the existence of a nuisance or insanitary conditions on their premises, and as a rule his requisitions had been complied with. In one case necessary structural alterations had been made in the interval between bis visits, although he had not issued a formal notice. This was gratifying as showing the desire of owners or occupiers to comply with requests. On the advice of Dr tt angeley, the District Health Officer, and with the kind assistance of the Town Clerk and EnEngineer, pattern dust and refuse bios had been ordered for use in the borough. He drew attention to the untidy state of the borough refuse tip off Buller-street, partly caused by paper blowing into the adjoining sections, and he considered much could be done to minimise the evil by periodical attention, by laying a covering of fresh earth over the refuse as deposited. He wished it was in his power to suggest a more suitable depot. Or. Bellringer urged that it was time to secure a more suitable site for a rubbish depot. The report was adopted,
