LIBERAL AND LABOUR FEDERATION.
A SECRET CONFERENCE. THE PREMIER'S ADDRESS. FEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, July 12. A conferecc'i of delegates from the branches of the Liberal and Labour Federation opened yosterday, About one hundred and twenty delegates were present, representing nearly every p»rt of the colony. Proceedings are not opsn to the P. ess. The Premier, who is President, gave an address, in which be declared that the branch?s of the organisation should keep in touch with one another and with the Executive. Defects had been found to exist in the constitution cf ihe Federation, and it would ba necessary to remedy these bo as to facilitate its business, A discordant note had recently bean sounded by the allegation that the interests of towns were in conflict with those Of country districts. This cry had been raised with the object of dismembering the Liberal party, and it should be shown by tbe Federation that the interests of town and country were identical. The Federation was in a fair financial position.
