The gams was purely a mud scramble, and affjrded no t. st of the merit of tha R"P3. who were defeated by 14 to 5. In the first speli Now Zealand played with the wind, and more than held i their own. D. Gallagher scored a try,! which Wallace converted, and F. Johnston also registered a try for the combined team, which was not improved upon. In the second half the combined team had all the best of the play, and scored three tries, one of which was converted.
TEAM ENTERTAINED. A GOOD SEND-OKF. Wellington, July 13. The New ZeaUnd and Willington Rugby Union entertained the New Zsahnd team at a dinner last night. There was a large attendance, Mr G. F. 0. Campbell, Presid nt of the New Zealand Rugby Unipa being in tbe chair, and amongst the guests were Mr Seddon, Sir Joseph Ward, Messrs Masssy, J as. Allen, and Buchanan, M's.H.R. Mr Seddon, in responding to the of " The Parliament of New Zealand," wished the team every success. Sir Joseph Ward, in proposing the toast of the team, said the game they had witnessed that afternoon could not be taken as any criterion of the abilities of the team. Mr A. 0. Norris, manager of the team, in replying, expressed his opinion that the team was the best all-round combination that had ever left the colony, The Moeraki left shortly after 8 p.m. in tbe teeth of a heavy southerly gale and torrents of raiD. A large crowd gave the men an enthusiastic send-off. J. Duncan has been elected captain and M. Wood vice captain. R. McGregor was chosen as the third man to act with the captiin and manager as a selection committee. The injuries sustained by J. Spencer and Wallace were' not of a serious character, and they were able to acoompany the team. Napieb, July 11. A match between the Wairarapa Thursday Union Juniois and Hawke's Bay Juniors was played here to-day, the visitors winning by 11 to 5.
