RETAILING MEAT IN BRITAIN.

PBOPOSBD COMPANY. PIE PRESS ASSOCIATIOS. Wexlinqtox, July 10. A deputation, accompauied by several members of tha House, waited on the Hon. the Premier this afternoon to lay before him a scheme for retailing New Zealand m°at in Great Britain. It was explained that it was proposed to float a company for retailing th-> colony's meat in the United Kingdom, and that the company intended to make use of a new and improved def rrs'.ing precis. A strong syndicate had been formed in New Zealand and in London, with a capital of a quirter of a million, to place New Z;alatd meat before the British public in quite a new way. The deputation wanted to know whether the Premier thought the soheme would take the place; f his own. They had received a cable message saying there was no prospect of fl mting a company while the Government scheme Was being talkel about. Some of the deputa'ion suggested it might be po isible to suspend the Government scheme, and give this company an opportunity to do ihe work. Mr Seddon, in reply, said the Governments proposals did not warrant any axiety in the old land. The alarm was amongst the peopb who had been making huge profits. Tho Government was not going to cut prices, but wanted to push New Zealand meat where it was nut now being sold. If the private company would undertake this work he would undertake to say there would be no clashing. If the assurance went home that the Government was going to do nothing antagonistic to the company, there would be no occasion for alarm. The Government would give i. reasonable assistance, and would give it the sime facilities in the way of grading, ate, as it would afford any other company ; he had to be careful not to s*y anything that might b-us-d to help any coaopmy to Aoa. shares.
