VOLUNTEER NEWS.

The School of Military Instruction, under Lieut.-Oolonel Owen, commenced its session here yesterday. There was a large attendance, about 40 officers and non-coms. In the afternoon the class were marched to Poverty Flat and exercised in musketry and skirmishing. The evening was devoted to a lecture on discipline, the class being held at the Court House, as the Drill Hall was occupied. The corps represented are as follows: —Stratford and Kgmont Mounted Rifles, Taranaki Rifles, Taranaki Guards, Inglewood Rifles, Stratford Rifles, Waitara Rifles, and the New Plymouth and Stratford Cadet Corps.
