VOLUNTEER NEWS.
Thehe was a good muster of both corps at the inspection parade last night. Lieut.-Colonel Ellis and Gap-tain-Quarte: master Oock were present. The Rifles, under Captain WestoD, were mirched towards Fort Niger and exercised in the "attack of a position," the xvoi k being carried out to the eatisj faction of the officer commanding the I corps. Oa returning to the Hall a [brief exposition of the new company organisation and drill was given by one of the sargjanig. The Guards, under Oaptnin Uook and Lieutenants Holmes and Messenger, wore exercised in the Utter movements in the Drill Hall, also taking the various formations. OsptaiD Wcs'on aomuueed that fines would in future be inflicted on all absentees. The S hool of Instruction will commence its session here on the 9th inst. The f-tatford Settler fays: —"A largo number of the members of the Stratford Mounted Rifles, the Stratford Rifle Vo'untetra and Cadet Corps intend taking advantage of the classes in connection with the Defence D-pirt-ment to be held in New Plymouth during the next six weeks,"
