VOLUNTEER NEWS.
The Taracaki Guards held a full dress parade last night and went through the progiarome for their art union exhibition. The physical drill squ-.d put in some excellent work. Tfce sword pxercisa by the officers will also be a very intereatirg feature if this unique exhibition. The art union tickets are to le sold at the door as tickets of admission. The drawing takes place after the exhibition at 9 o'clock, under the supervision of His Worship the Mayor snd Colonel Ellis, commanding the Taiacaki Battalion. It is expected that the Garrison Band will be in attendance, and altogether tbe affair promises to ba exceedingly interesting and enjoyab!e.
The latest drill book by MajorGeneral Bibington, Commanding the New Zealand Deforce Force?, has just been published at headquarters, Wellington. The Hawera Mounted Rifles annual ball will be held on Friday, 10th July, Tbe fixture is also a popular one. Through the couitisy of Lieutenant Carter of the Eltham Riflss the Argus is enabled to publi:h the result of the examination of non-coms, that was held a week or so ago under OantainAdjutant TauntoD, of the Taranaki Battalion. The order of pass is as follows : -Fergeants A. G. Whiting and G. Heaven, Corporals A. F. Pruden, IS, G. Pagp, R. H. Botd, and E. JlilliL'hsmp. The Egmor.t and Stratford Mounted Rifle Corps go into camp on (he 16th July. Oa the 23rd they wiil hold a combined mili aiy sports meeting oa ha racecou:se, ending with a ball in ihe Drill H«ll the eaite cvenin». It is reported tint Colonel Pitt will bo appointed Minister for Dtfence thcrtly.
