His Worship the Mayor and several other representative men are expected to be present to show their sympathy with the movement.

The first item of business will Bradbury (Normanby) being the only candidate mentioned. The session will be opened by his Excellency ihe Governor (a. Cock Esq.,) who will deliver tb.B customary speech. This will be followed by questions, motions etc., after which a Bill dealing with Native Lands will be read a first time. The remainder of the evening will be devoted to a debate on the Addrtss in-Reply, which will be moved by Mr S. Smith (Henui), and seconded by Mr Stevenson (Spotswood). For the information of some members, it may be stated that this debate enables them to speak upon any political subject that has the slenderest relation to the subject matter of the speech from the Throne. Members are specially requested to be at their places at 7 30 sharp.

The County Clerk, Mr 0. T. Mills' proceeds to Wellington to-day relative to tha County Bridge loan. A large amount of correspondence has passed between the Treasury and the Council over the matter, but as matters have not progressed satisfactorily so far as obtaiuiug the money is concerned, it has been considered advisable that Mr Mills' should personally confer with the Department with a view to avoid further del ly. It is to be hoped that the visit will be productive of satisfactorily results. Messrs Weston and Weston, in submitting their opinion to the Borou, h relative to the Imperial Hotel case, hive suggested callin* a special meeting of the Council to consider the matter. The attention of hdies is drawn to an advertisement notifying that Miss Batchelor is starting classes of instruction in tha Langer system of dress cutting and dress making. At an extraordinary general meeting of the Canterbury Sde Yards' Company's shareholders at Christchurch on Monday, it was decided to absorb the Midland Saleyards Company, who have agreed to the amalgamation, on terms drawn up by the directors of both businesses. The capital will be increased to L20.0D0. Major Loveday has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers Deoo ration.

j At a mejting of townspeople held in : the Town Hall on Monday afternoon, and i presided over by his Worship the Mayor, it was decided to entertain the Farmers' Union Conference delegates at a Smoke Concert at the Imperial Hotel, on Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. The price of the tickets was fixed at 10s, and a subcommittee consisting of the Mayor, Messrs J. C. George and Wood were appointed to arrange details. There is no doubt that Mr Frank Watts will, as usual, take care that the reputation of the Imperial Hotel shall be well sustained on the occasion, so that a most enjoyable evening should be spent. A largely attended meeting chiefly consisting of ladies, was held in the Council Chamber on Monday afternoon, in connection with the proposed farewell to Lord and Lady Ranfuriy His Worship the Mayor, Mr R. Cock, presided. It was decided to entertain the Governor and Lady Kanfurly at »a evening "At Home " at the Theatre Royal on Friday, 26th inst., and that the price of the tickets should be 5s each, and the follow ing committees were appointed in connection therewith : Ceremonial The Mayor, Mesdames Oock, Standish. Newman, E. M. Smith and Dockrill; Musical —Mesdamea Holmes, Edmunds, Rollo, Miss Bedford, and Mr Paton. Furnishing and Decorating—Mesdames Greenaway, Weston, Wright, Penn, Miss Walker and ivir S. Smith (with power to add to their number). There is no doubt the function will be patronised, and every effort will be mrde to onsure its success.
