Whilst dfecusnng the question of the Importance of the Moki-road at the Chamber of Commerce meeting on Wednesday, Mr. Bewley mentioned that Mr. McOluggage, whm recently returning from a trip in the northern fart of the district, had to travel 100 mites round in order to get home, whereas if the Moki-road had been completed he wculd have sived 80 mile?. He also pointed out that the road was level except for one saddle. Mr Fraser emphasised the f c' that Messrs Hatrick, of Wangaoui, were trying their hardest to 8-cure the trade of northern Taranaki for Wanganui, and. to this end were sntggiog ths small rivers leading to the Wanganui Biver in ordar to get steamers up into the district. Yet we were standing idle, and calmly allowing the district to be deprived of this valuable trade. He considered the chairman and both of the town newspapers were deserving cf great credit for arous'ng interest in the natter. - It was time to wake up and get the road finished so as to bring the trade to Taraniki. Mr Qovett was in favour of completing the nnin road to Auckland, bat it was promptly demonstrated that road would take trade from and to', bring it to this district. A resolution urging the Government to complete the Moki-road as soon as passible wm pissed.
