In the Commons, Mr Austen Oham- j berlain siid it was inadvisable to appoint a Select Committee to inquire into the question of mail contractp. An interdepartmental committee would elicit full information, As to the question which hsd arisen in connection vtih th<* Australian contract, the Imperial Government was precluded from excluding any British I subject from employment on the ground jof colour, and it was doubly ;to do so in any contract where India [ was a party.
