" The Sultan of Sokoto has rallied a large following around an ancient flag belonging to the founder of tbe Sokoto Empire. Tbis venerated banner wjb captured when the town of Sokoto fell, but was carelessly allowed to be stolen. After sharp fighting the British force repulsed the Sultan's attack, themselves loriog two killed and many wounded.
