With regard to the suggestion for building a transcontinental line to Port Darwin so that the mails might be sent over the trans-Siberian railway Mr. Chamberlain is of opinion that the mails could be landed in Eogland muoh fas'erby the trans-Siberian route than by the sea r, ute. A statement is made in Melbourne that tbe accelerating of the Vancouver imail service aid the brirging of the boats now employed up to the speed of the other two will require a considered incrtaseof £15,000.
