Whilst expressing the conviction that the people of New Zealand hud the most absdue confidence in the impartiality and integrity of the Judges, and that that confidence would not be lessened by the remarks occurring in the judgment of the Privy Council, Mr Samuel regroUed that it should hav) been for thy of the Court of Appeal themselves to vindicate the honour and integrity of thoir high office in the best) interests of the public. One of the in' st unfortunate features of the case ivts, he considered, that unavoidably thti refutation of the charges implied, in tho judgment of the Privy Council quully tended in the direction of weakening pub'ic respect for and cmfidenco in a High Judicial Tiibuml. Traverc, and proposed a resolution of sympathy and of condolence, which the Secretary was instructed to convey to Mrs Travera and the relatives of the deceased gentleman.
