The Rev J. N. Battle, who has assumed the pastorate of the Whiteley Memorial Ohurch, srikes those with whom he comes in contact as a man of great force of character, aud his pulpit abilities would lead one to believe that he will soon take a leading i place in New Plymouth. A meeting of the members of the recently formed Harbonr - League will be held at Messrs Kelsey ' nd Lennon'i offices on Friday, 24th inst. at 3 p.m. '1 he importance of matters in Connection wl'h harbour extension is so great, that it is hoped a large and representative meeting will take place. The Pnverty Bay Herald states that Mr W. Miller, o£ Gisborne, representing an American roller skata syndicate, has practical ly completed arrangements for the opening ol links at Napier, Palmerston North, D<inevirke, Carterton, Feilding and Waihi, wtvl arrangements will probably be made at Maaterton, Wangaoui, Hawera, Btratford, New Plymouth, and possibly Wellington. A pettier informs us (Hawera Star) of a hawk's neßt being found on the ground n a field near Norman by. This was new in his expedience, the hawks usually building pretty high.
