AN AGENT'S APPEAL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—On the 29th, the people will have the opportunity to make or mar tbe progress of New Plymouth. Tbe foundation of prosperity c« bi laid by choosing a progressive Mayor. We contend that it is the duty of voters of bo'h sexes to dißCird all party aud private fealiogs where so much is at stake. It is as much the woman's duty to study the welfare o? their! husbands and their bread vrinners, as it is their husbands duty to s uly th sm. Thick what an injury cm be done by those exercising their voting power i without thought, and probably undoing that whioh their husbands hav J been spending energy and money in trying fo obtain. Is it possible to expect that the business men can always be devoting -time, money, and energy towards the progress of the town without the h *lp of both male and female vo'6'B. Picture to yourselves, vowis, whit a nice state of things there would be if if the business men of Nsw Plymouth were to ceiS3 troubling themselves about locil affairs. It would simply mean that business would he stagna-it, property worthies 3 , labour unobtainablp, and our population decreasing. All this can be avoided by elec'iug a live and progressive Mayor and Councillors.' who will allow their actions to be open to our friend (the Press), in Older that tbe ratepayers can see how things sra going. Bat do not stop at that, again come forward with your assistance and build a harbour, which can easily ba done. Already the business men of New Plymouth, with the belp of some farmers, have came forward with about 200 guineas for th* purpese of enabling you to start work <°n a sound scheme. The result of your work will be that you will quickly have New Plymouth a large city, in pl oo of a small unimportant town. We are, eto., OaIIiAGBAN <k Co,
