LITERARY AND DEBATING SOCIETY.
A GESERAL meeting of the newly formed Literary and Debating Society ! w#s held at the Council Chamber on Thursday evening, tbe attendance being very fair, and representative of both seniors and juniors. Mr Dempsey presided. The following officers were appointed —Stnir Branch, President-: Mr Edmunds ; Vice President o : Rev. Bradbury and r Gl?gg; Secretary, Mr. 8. Smith; Awstwt-Secretary, R'-v.
Bradbury; Committee, Rev. S. S. Osborne, Messrs A. Ribe'ts, and Tregellis. Junior Branch—Pr'sident: Mr A. L. Standish; Moss's A. Veale and Skeate-'; Committee, Messrs Campbell, Russell, «nd Morshed, On the question of fixing meeting dateß b- in° brought forward, Mr Hollow suggested that the debates should take the form of a Parliamentary Union. He pointed out several of tbe

Eventually Mr. Percy White moved that the gent'emen whose nimes were on tho list of membership ns read to the meeting, constitute a Juni'-r which s'-'aH take the form of a Parliamentary Union to meet weekly on a night to he fixpd. The motion was seconded by Mr. Holloway. The Chairman ruled that the mo'iou could not be put without notice, and the meeting was adjourned for a w ek to enable 'be question to be determined
