According to the M>gizino of Art Bertram Hire?, the armWss artist, nourished the desire to become an artist from his early childhood. At eight yeaia of »ge, however, he wiis deprived of both his arms in a tramcar accident at Bristol. Ban this did nob cause him to abandon his intention, aud he decided to fulfil it by learning to draw with his mouth. In sis years from the date of the accident he had acquired such facility in this extraordinary method of work that he could accomplish with ease most things that we do with our hands. Some of Mr Hiles' water-colours were acquired by Qu en Victoria, and also by Queen Alexandra, aid by Mr Walter dane and other collectors and connoisseurs. He has been contend to have his work judged on i's merits, without aeking any allowance on his handicap, and has exhibited at che Koyal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, the Eoyal Society of British Artists, the Dudley Gallery, and elsewhere.
