TBS PBEBB ABSOCIATIOX. Mastikton, March 26. In the District Court, a libel action was heard wherein Taiawkio and othet s claimed £IOO damages from Appro and TaMahan Mahuhui, writer and publisher resppc'ivelv of an allege'! libel contained in an article published !■ 'he Maori at Grey town. The matter ar.ise -jut of the alleged evasion of the doa tax. Plaintiff* claimed that the article imputed that tht-y, as chief*, were disreputable, dishonourable, utterly degraded and unfit to hold tribal rites. After the case was opened, the parties confarrpd, and defendants agreed to pay £ls costs and publish a withdrawal of the words used.
