(Fboh ook Own Corkesposdknt.) Fbidat, 20th inatwas a red letter day here, being the occasion of the banquet to Mr Symas, and of the visit of the Premier. From an early hour, people began to assemble at the township, and at 6 p.m., when the party arrived, a Urge crowd had assembled, and lecsived the Premier and paity with hfarty cheers. On bahilf of the recaption committee, Mr S. W. Scott read an address of welcome to the Premier, to which he responded. Shortly after he received deputation from various bodies of settleis, viz : Mangare and Prospect bye roads re metalling; Kohurataki re new town -hip; Wnitiinga re extension of road to the Tangdrakau, and connection therefrom to Wanganui by steamer. I understand that no definite piomisas were made to any of these deputations At the banquet there were about 60 present, the toasts being as follows: "The King" " The Quest of the Evening," responded to by Mr Symes. | Song, " The Wearing of the Green," I by Mr Seddon, who gave for an encore " Hard Times." '

Recitation by Mr Rodgers. " The Parliament of New Zealand," responded to by Messrs O'Meara and Major. Recitation, Mr Spence. '• Land Settlement," Mr Tuohey.

" The Bick Blocks and Mr Mc Oluggage," responded to by the chairman.

" The Press," responded to by represantatives of the Daily News at:d Tauanaki News, the Egmont Settler, Taranaki Herald, Egmont Post, fiilcham Argus. " The Ladies," responded to by Mr McVeigh. The vice-chairs were occupied by Messrs Oucl.i and Rodders. Mr Siddon, iu the course of bis speech, without making any definite promise to the settlors, said, very feelingly, " I think the settlers will find th».t it has been well for them that the Old Man Ciime to see them." I The banquet terminated at l2 o'clock clo«ing with " Auld Lang Syne."
