Poultry notes will be found on page 4 o! this issue. The election of members of a Licensing Committee takes place to-day. Notwithstanding efforts made in many quarters, very little interest is being taken in the election, and we don't expect to see a very h avy poll. Ten candidates have been nominated, and electors should have little difficulty in making their selection. There are two tickats, but many electors will probably mak-i an independent choice, as there are good men on bath tickets, Everyone en the electoral roll is qualified to vote 'ihe proprietor of the Keith Hall Dairy held has a notice in this issue which should interest all householders, inasmuch as it , relates to the purity of milk supplied in the town.

The Takapuna brought a very large quantity of material tor the New Plymouth Gas Works on Tuesday. We understand the Gas Company is importing some 500 tons of material in ooDnection with their new a"ri improved retorts, and other improvement no.v being affected at the wjrks, improvemanis whioh will make these works the most up-to-date in the colony.

At the Dunedin Police Oourt on Wednesday. Patrick Oro sman, Robert Turnkull, and David Rowe ware committed for trial for breaking and entering a dwelling, and stealing jewellery etc., and William Qu«n fur receiving the stolen articles, The Duaedin and Kaikora Tramway Company's cable line made a profit l&at year of £1497. At the Police Court on Wednesday, Mr Stanford, 8.M., heard argument in ths maintenance case of Tnomas Mitten v. William Mitten, on the point as to whether, as defendants counsel contended, complainant •being in receipt of of a full old age pension was a destitute person under the Act. Mr Cnrtie (Roy and Wilson) represented complainant. and Mr Quilliam, instructed by Pitt and Moore, of Nelson, appeared for defeidant. Kventually an order of 7s 8d a week was against defendant, but bis Worship intinated he might, on further application, increase the order to 10s a week, payable in equal rati® by complainants brothers.
