ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FEB PRESS ASSOCIATION. Ashbubton, March 33. About 1 o'clock thii afternoon Mrs L. Rattray was thrown from a trap on the Ashburton traffic bridge and killed almost instantaneously. Mrs Babington, who was with ker, was badly bruised. The cause of the accident was the horse shying at some timber lying en the bridge fer repairs to tbe structure. What mak<>B the case more sad is the fact that Mrs Rattray's husband died suddenly yesterday from bio ad poisoning. Eonnu, March 23.
A man named Robert Brans fell offi a wire bridge at Mitchell's, Lake Brunner, and broke his neck. Nafikb, March 23. '
Nicholas Wilson, aged 53, single, a labourer, of Hastings, committed suicide in the hospital by cutting bis throat. Deceased had been under treatment-in tbe institution for a growth on the chest, and the fact that the case was hopeless probably drove him to suicide. Napier, March 23.
A labourer named Joseph Cosgrove committed suicide about 5 o'clock this evening, by taking a bottle full of carbolic acid, or some similar preparation. He staged that his wife was dying in the hospital, and he had takes the stuff to kill h : mtelf.
At the inquest on the body of the man Nicholas Wilson, who committed ■uicide at the hospital on Saturday by crtting his throat with a raur, a verdict of temporary insanity was returned, Oabtxstojt, March 23. News reached town last night that a man named James Smith, and old resident of Clareville, committed succide by shooting himself.
