CORRESPONDENCE.
[Wo do not hold ourselves respoasiDlo for opinions expressed by correspondents,] THE LICENSING ELKO I? I ON. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The report of tha mretiug of the Council of the Church s on tha above question mak»s interesting reading. It is quite evident from the remarks of the rev. chairman (Mr Osborne) that 10 o'clock licenses is on'y the tliia end vi the wedge. What is really aimed at is closing the bars altogether. This means tha*; while the wealthy can have as much drink as they please, because they can buy is wholesale and drink it in their own homes, the working man, who cannot afford to do this, is to go without. Mr Osborne, who is not a prohibitionist, would close the bars at six o'clock like tho shops, so that those employed in shops, offices and factories till that hour Bhali be deprived of their use entirely, while thote who have le : su?e can indulge as they please. I think the sooner the sale of liquor is under control, and prohibition and other fads knocked on the head, the better for all parties.—l am, etc., A Wobking Man.
TEN O'CLOCK CLOSING. TO THE EDITOR, Sib, —May I beg space to ask every elector, male and female, especially the latter, to cast their vot:< in favour of the 10 o'clock closing of hotel-bars. I ask on behalf of the boys and girls,— I am, etc., A Mother.
