NEW ZEALAND LOAN.
A THREAT FROM THE PREMIER. Per Press Association. Chri&tchurch, March 9. In his speech at Hanmer, the Premier, dealing with the recent loan, said that the Government had a good nine millions on deposit in the banks of thn country, and it was quite possible that if the money lender attempted to dictate the policy of the country there was a way out of the difficulty. The naeney lenders would have a lesson taught them that they had better leave New Zealand nlone. It had b;en said that two millions < f public money had been appropriated to public works last year. This was l quite right right, but the fact was back that on 31st March the GovernI meat would not have spent more than 50 per cent, that 'Parliament granted for public works. Tbe expenditure this year would be considerably less than last. The public works were making satisfactory progress. This non-expen-diture left the Treasurer with a credit on March 31st on the Public Works Account of over a million sterling.
