Captain Calder, who left Suva a week ago, eays that he hssnotthe slightest doubt thit the disturbanca has been brought about by the agitators for federation with New Zealand. These men number five, and it appears that they have led one chief to bslieve tbat if the natives were annexed by New Zealand they would have no work to do, and their condition would be improved. Cardinal Moran denies that he accused the Wesleyans of praying on the Fijians. Ho said that according to his information from Fiji, the Roko of Namosi assigned as one of his motives for becoming a Catholic that the Wesleyans' deceived the natives and preyed upon them. Received 27, 6.29 p.m. Sydney, February 27. Speaking at a meeting of the Hiberuian Benefit Society, Cardinal Moran made a lengthy reference to the Bible burning. He said for some time he had information that all this matter about the Bible burning was a mere matter got up by a certain clique in Suva. On Wtdnesday last he received a telegram from headquarters at Suva, and it declares that the telegram concerning the Bible burning to be absolutely false. Then, it adds, " the whole thing has been 1 got up.' " Catholic and all right-thinking people in Suva are indignant against slanderers. Full particulars are being sent by letter and the newspapers.
