A DESPERATE PRISONER.
PES PRESS ASSOCIATION. Gisbobsk, February 26. A man named William Webster who was ams'ed for drunkenness on S iturday. a'tumpted to commit suicide in the cells with the handle of his pannikin, He was overpowered and pUced in a straight jncktt and watched. Since yesterday the maa appeared to have recovered bit for the sake of fit fety he was s'rapped in bis bunk last nigh'. During the night he suooeeded in wrenching out the ring-bol's to which he was tied, and on Constable Crawford, the night officer, going to his cell at 3 a.m. the prisoner attacked him, knocking him down and leaving Lim unions nous. Webster then escaped clad ia his night shirt. A search was made, but no trace has been found of him. It ia b?lie/ed that ha is in the river. Oonstab'e Crawford has recover*); he w»s cot seriously injured. Later. The man Webster was rc-captured near th 9 sea beach a few miles from town at 5.30 to-night. He nude no rrsis f ance. He wes worn out and had to be conveyed in a vehicleuand carried to a cell.
