HOSPITAL LEVY.
At the meeting of tho Hawera County Council on Saturday the Star \ reports: — .■ I Messrs Gove 1 1 and Quilliam, solici-1 tors to ths Tiranaki Hospital and Charitable A<"d Board, wrote asking the Council to pny £472 4s 53, amount due by the Council for hospital and charitable aid, and threatening, in ; dtfanlt. to sue for the amount. The Clerk said it would have been botttr if tho Taranaki Board had deducted the amount due*by the Egmont County, He did not know why such a peremptory lo ter had been written. Cr. W'ilkioftud ihe Council should hi Id back what it thought was ths amount due by tho Egmont County. Cr. Marx and tfce Chairman thought the Council ehould resent the tone of ! the letter. Cr. Dive did noi believe in treating : it too seriously. The Board must be fend of speeding 63 83. Cr. Stewart suggested that the Clerk ,' write to the Taranaki Board, pointing ■ out the position of aftairs. It was not reasonable for one body to claim from another what the latter might not be able to collect. The Clerk said the Egmont County was constituted as from April 1902. The Validating Ac", was retrospective. It was decided to forwaid the I amount, less approximate sum due by , Egmont County.
