TROOPERS' MEMORIAL AT ST. MARY'S
Ths committee which is arranging for the , erection in St. Mary's cburch-y ard of a memorial to Taranaki men who lost their Ores in the Sonth African war, met on' Monday. Present—Messrs H. Weston; (ohairman), S. W. Shaw, Skinner, Rev. *. G. Evans, and . Lieutenuit-Colonel Ellis. A tender was provisionally accep-j ted for a memorial after the design of the Yen. Archdeacon Walsh. The memorial will take the form of a Runic cross rest-1 fug on a massive pedestal, on which the names of the dead soldiers will be in. j scribed. The whole will .be of the best Melbourne Milestone. In order to make I the list: as complete as possible, the com- , mittee will be glad to receive information | bom the relatives or friends of any Taranafa" men, whether a member of a New Zealand contingent or of any other regiment, who fell in the war. The memorial will be erected on the front terrace in St. Mary's church yard, and will be an ap« propria te monument among those which stand there to the memories of the fallen in our native wars.
