On Situr- . day morning.a*: 3 o'clo-k Frank Hemplftnan, a clerk employrd at the breWery, was knocked ; down by some -menoutside his residence. The men took from hie pocke'e the keys of the brewery office and safe. A little while afterwards J. Btevecson, the brewer, whelives at the brewery, wjs awakened by his wife with the news that , the house waa fall of smoke. On up he discovered the office on fire,the wfe doorand' office door being .. open. S'eT2n«on* secured the ledger ; and cash book. Som6 of the keys taken from Hempleman were found in the b.eweiy yard. Marks of buggy .wheel* were traced to the office door, and it waa found that a sum of monay bad been taken from the sife, but th<° exact amount ia not known. De'ectivea have prooeeded from eifc the matter. There was a smell of kerosene in the Fafe, as well as in the office. The whole affair is a mystery, bnt evidently the thief or thieves were ! aogoieant of the whereabouts of the safe, and that fio banking bad been done for several days.
