Carroll has practically settled the long-standing difficulty with the Waika'o nativns, all matters in dispute regarding the district boun- » daries being left to the Minister and " King " Mahuta to jointly settle. The result of a conference was that Mahuta consented to have a Council elected under the new Act to deal with the Waikato lands, and to have a village Council set up. It is b-lievfd that Mahuta will be ag-iin invi ed to take a eeat Legislative Council.
