HON. J. CARROLL'S CONFERENCE WITH NATIVES.
PER PRESS ASSOCrATroX. Auckland, May 21. Tbe Hon. J. Carroll again conferred with the Waibato and oth«r tribes f Hs morning. Mshuta welcomed the Native Minister in a brief spe n cb, and urged Mr Carroll not to he impatient to hurry this business through.
Mr Carroll advised the Wsikatos to fall in with the new order of 'hings Tbe well-to-do Maoris might be left, to work out their own salvation, but it wag for these in authority to lrok after the poor landless people. Hennre Kaihau sa'd that all was now consummated, »nd nothing remained but for Mr-Ca- roll and Mnhuta to say what wss to b« done. It was for the Maoris to tr<a<ke a trial of the new Act. The Maoris were a'l rejoiced at Mr Carroll's offer to confer an appropriate position on Mshuta befitting his rank. Altho'ich the Maoris were outnumbered by Europeans they should still have consideration, and be recognised by the King of England. He also discussed the boundary question,
