MAYORAL INSTALLATIONS.
NEW PLYMOUTH. At the Council Oh>.mbt»)s r,n Wednesday, the formal installation of th; Mayor-elect, Mr E. Dockrill, for the fifth consecutive term, took place. There were present: Mr Dockrill, Ois. Brooking, Carter, Collis, L aland, Stobr, Tisehaud Webster.
Mr Dockrill signed the usual declaration, which W6S witnessed Mr Brooking. He then tendered his thanks to tiu burgesses for again returning him to officß, and to the members of the Council for the friendly manner in which they ha>i worked with him dnriug the post year. A large amouut of important business bad tobs dealt with during the current year, but he was certain the Council would carry it th.'Oiigh to a satisfne ory conclusion. &<> hoped the good feeling between himself and the Councillors would continuf, and it would always be his aim to promote this friendly relationship, In conclusion, the Mayor thanked the Councillors for their presence at the function.

The ruxreot year, Or. Brooking added, would see a big change, as stated by the Mayor, io t.hft public woiks of the Borough, as at no far distant date the loan proposals should be carried. He hoped and believed that the proposals would be carried through, for, as far as he was aware, there wkb li! tie objection to th«m on tlw pait of the ratepayers It was recognised that the town vvas_ on the up-grad-, and it was therefore the duty of the Council to keep ahead of the times iu the matter of improvement as far as it lay in its power. Spmn ratepayers thought the Council *as slivv in its methods, and that it should procatd faster in effecting improvements, but when the ratepayers saw the results ihey would agree that the Council hsd not b.en slow.

The twenty-fifsh anniversary of the borough of Gisborne was celebrated today, whr.n Mr Joha Townley was installed as mayor for the thirteenth ybar in succession.
