It has been (*eciJ-d to hold a ping pong tournament iu *,ew Plymouth on rather a large scale. The suggesteJ date is 12th June next, and a strong committee will be asked to take the matter in hand. The proceeds will be devoted to the hospital fund. A meeting of the committee who have ir: hand the question oi! disposal of the colours of the old Taranaki Mounted Kifles was held on Wednesday. Present: Me»srs J. 0. Davies, 0. Deacon, J. C. George, J. Skinner, and W. Messenger. Mr Daviea was appointed chairman, ant! Mr Messenger secretary. The secretary w;.s instructeu to ob. tain a glass case for the colours, and the chairman and secretary were deputed to intorview Adjutant Taunton with reference to arranging a ceremony for Coronation Day, and report to the committee on Wednesday next. An effort will be made to get any men who served in the old mounted company commanded by Captain Mace during the war to attend the ceremonies.
Mr P. Williams-Moses? the Agency Supervisor for New Zealand of the New York l.ile Insurance Company is in town making arrangements for starting an agency here. Amongst the estates of deceased persons recently certified to in the colony aie thote ot William Uhrystall, of Ohristchurch, £47,304, and John Grigg, of Longbeach Station, Canterbury, £83,34*. The Agricultural Department intends to offer prizas of £25, £ls and £lO for plans for cowsheds. It is intended to lithograph the best of the three plans and distribute copies throughout the dairying distriots of the colony,

The Post remarks:-It is said that colonials are showing an increased disingition to become fishermen. For some time the fishing fleets of the colony have to a great extent been owned or controlled by foreigners, particularly Italians and Greeks. The development of fisheries and of native-born craws is of intarest as being the possible foundation of a future naval ruserve.

With reference lo the visit of the Phcebe his Worship the Mayor received a telegram on Wednesday evening from Captain the Hon. V. Addington. stating that he should proceed from Wellington to New Plymouth as sonn as lh« watither moderated.
