The Australians commenced a match Bgaioit Suirey at the Oval to-day, but, owing to rain, play was not started till 4 o'c'ock. The Australians won the toss and began batting. The wicket is s->ft. Trumble, Jones, and Kelly are standing out of the Australians, and Baker is omitted from the Surrey team. Doff and Trumper opened, but the former had only scored eight when Richardson diimissed bim with a yorker. One wicket for 18. Trumper at 26 had a life at Hayward's hands at slip off Richardson. Hill joined the Sydnryito and the latter gave a fine display of vigorous hitting. Rain then set in and stumps were drawn. One wicket for 87. Scores:— Australians. - First innings. Duff, b Richardson .. 8Trumper, not out 47 Hill, not out 32 Chhistchuhch, May 12. The New Zealand Cricket, Council has considfred the qufsHon of th* Englifh amateurs' visit to New Zealand. It wsb resolved that in case of lots the New Zealand Associations be ssked to bear the cost proportiorately, any profit to be divided. The secretary was irstruc'ed to wri e (oLord H»wk* informing him that there is every prospect of the propwrd trip satisfactorily arrarged.
