A NEW BOARDING-HOUSE.
1 It is doubtful t£ a morn convenient 1 position could be found fcr a bosrdingnouaß tiiiii t hftt chosen <>y Mrs \Y Moon, whose Bstablislinen l ; in Powde - ham-street, irausaediawly facing Silv. rstreet, is tiotv open for u-e. It is a two-storey bui Idmg of plain, but neat, design, and provided vmh that accommodation which, insures the comfort oi - boarders. The work was entrusted to Mr Louis Bui lot, acd, Uiie all bis under airings, ifc i s rot only well finished, but the> material has been so - carefully chosen, and the execution eo ably carried out, t hat the effect of the interior is grai lily enhanced. All is bright, cheerful, cosy-looking, and attractive, while ei rceilant space is found in all the rooms, the studs throughout 1 ieing lift, high. The entrance hall i« 'acious, and has a, diagonally-panelled d» do, surmounted, with a suitable mo aiding, above which is a trery effective wall-paper and. mornice, the ceiling bei»x : channelled. Throughout the building the decorations are harmoniously treated, and have a homely and urhistic aspect. On the of t.ha hall is a comfortabli > sitting-room witii protty tiled stove, ai id cofilv furnished. On the opposite side is a o/drcora 14ft. by 9having a Sr« iplace, and looking as and attractive as one could wish. Tile dining-room is spacious and well lighted, beicg 18ft. by 15ft. It has a nic'a dsdo, pleasing wall-paper, and chteri'al liooleuiu. The kitchen is at the rear of the dining-room, a ser-vice-slido be iog provided. The cooking arrangementin connection with which Mrs Mcon hi \a an enviabls reputation,
are all that a mid ba desired, the range being fitted with a high-pressure b jiler, which j irovides hot water for the scullery and t ath-room. Adjs«;ent to the kitchen is a commodious and wellventilated pant ry, capable of holding enough provisions to last out a siege. A peep into this room disclosed a goodly array of Tempting samples of the a-,t of cookery, which, in view of the visit being a surprise onp, indicated unmistakeably the excellent way in which the boardors were catered for. The upper floor is r« ached by one of the easiest staircases to negotiate that can be found in tha district. It also posseisst's considerable merit as a good piece of builder's work, the treads being of kauri and the risaro of picked rimu. Beneath the stairway a very UEeful linen closet h?s bsen constructed :;nd should be a greit conv«niene&. The upper floor lauding is exceptionally spacious and well lighted, at one end boing a window with stained glnss and a<; the other a glaz«d doorway leading io the verandah at the front of the house, from which a very pretty view is obtained seawards. On this floor are five nice bedrooms, one of which has a fireplace. The bath-room is lined j throughout, and over the bouds isaj zinc covering which will prevent water from psnetrating to the room balow. In this room is a lavatory basin fitted with an anti-splash tap, from which a steady stream flows so evenly that not a splash appears on the basin. The comfort of such a contrivance a« this is self-evident. The window of this room is so constructed that it forms an easy means of escape from the building in casa of fire. The rooms throughout ('here are 15 altogether) are suitably and neatly furnished and decorated, imd there is little doubt but that the rwudeis a" such an establishment '■ would be as comfortably as if they wtra, at homo—probably more so. Mr! Bullot deserves great praise for the excellent way in which he hus planned aud ram-'d out the work, whei eby the public have guinv.d a boarding-hou»<p that s h ould prove a boon and». comforr. j to tliosd in want of such acoommnda-l
