PROM OUK OWN COItRESTONDENT. On Friday, April 18th, the annual picnic of the Okato school was held in Mr T, P. Rughson's paddock. There was a large gathering of children and parents. Football, cricket, rounder?, tug-of-war, skipping, flat races, etc., were entered into with zwr, some of die children giving promise of becoming athletes of note. A 1! Okato on Satu'day, May 3rd, a football match was played batween thi local school and Oikura. Master W. McOulium captained the home team, and Master Johns the visitors. A fin* game resulted in a win for Oka'o by 18 points to nil. For the winners, O. McUullum among the backs and S. Hart among the forwards phyed a steiling gam<>, ss did Johns and Penwarden for the visitors, The passing rushfs of the Okato boys were neatly executed, for whom G. Hughson secured two trias, C. McOulium one, and H. McOulium onu. The Oaku<a boys, though somewhat heavier, were shorthanded, and played a plucky, determined uphill game. To their credit the spectators were impartial in their applause, wr.ich was elicited by good play on either sidf, Mr Boyce was referee. After the mitch both te*ms adjourned to the schoolroom, where a spraad had bieu prepared by the upp°r standard girls and some of the paten's. The following toasts were duly honoured : - " Our Visitors," proposed by Mr Boyce, and responded to by Master Johns on behalf of Miss Henderson, who came all the way from Oakura to look after hnr boys. " Tiii Ladies," proposed by Mr EuglefieM. The boys dispersed with heirty cheers for those who had made t.h« outing so enjoyable.
