PRIVATE SCHOOLS EXAMINATION.
Pill TRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, April 30. Tho threatened prosecution of parents whoso children attend private a -bo il l - 1 , for not- sending them to a public schoo 1 , led the principals of several private schools to apply to the Education Board for exemption under the School Attendance Act. Certificates of exemption were granted. At to day's meeting, Mr McKenzie raised the question of examination of pupils attending private schoo'n by the Board's Inspectors. Tje chairman (Mr Bageall) did not think the Board should do it. A'r Biaui'l said the Rom::i Catholics had declined. If the Board usdertook the examination of private Kchools it would mean a large expense. The Minister was of opinion that the timwas coming when all these would be inspected by Government Inspectors, and ther-s would be grants to a:l denominational schools
