DISTRICT COURT SENTENCES.
FEB PBESS ABSOOIATIOX. Wang audi, April 21. At the District Court to-day, Alexander Potter Hart, for attempting to break into a dwelling at Foxton, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. A Maori named Otene Pomare wes sentenced to eighteen months for obtaining a suit of clothe* by falsi pretences. Accused had a bad record, la the course of. the trial to-day, aocaied stated that he had asked the gaoler to seed a telegram for him, bu v . had bee» refused. The gaoler said he had no authority to send telegrams for prisornw, if they had no money to pay therefore. The jury added h rider to their verdict recommending that where a prisoner is awaiting trial, and has no fund*, the gaol authorities sheuld be empowered to forward telegrams and j Setters if necessary for iri« defence.
