ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
PEtt PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wanoanui, March 17. Yestfrday mortiiug the body of JR. L. Christie, aged 75, was found in the river near Aramoho. Dtceased was a prohibited person, and had evidently been drinking. This is the second body found in the rivtr within a week. A hotting fatality was narrowly averted at the Heads yesterday. A boat; containing five persons capsiz.d on the bar, and the occupants wero thrown into the water. Two swam ashore, but three clung to the beat, one of whom became exhaused and tank. He was rescued by one of hie mates J diving for him and bringing him back 'to the up-turned boat. The pilut boar. ! put off and rescued them, after their ! being half an hour in the water. Later.
An inquest into the death of Robert Christie commenced to-d ty. The body was found in the river on Sunday morning. One boot was missing and the other .boot was on the wrong fsot. Christie came to town the day before, and is supposed to have had £6 or £8 |in his possession, also a chtque for £5. iAs far as can be ascertained deceased did not spend any money, yet when the ; body was found only a few shillings were on it. The inquest was adjourned to enable the police to tra- e tha cheque. Aucku.no, March 17.
John Scott, managing director of the Waiuku Steamship Oompauy, was thrown from a buggy, which upset, and killed instantly. Wellington', March 17.
James Campil-, for many years porter at tha Occidental Hotel, died suddenly yesterday, it is believed of heart uistas j . Donedin, March 17. The body found in the Molyneux river has been identified os that of George Thomson, ex-Mayor of Bilclutha, who disappemd id October, 1900.
