In the District Oourt to-day Judge Ward heard the appeal of Whitaker, licensee of the Boyal Hotel, against the decision of a Magistrate who fined him £5 la for allowing liquor to be consumed on the premises at a Masonic banquet, Evidence showed that appellant omitted to get a permit, and finding the banquet being kept up later than expected, gave the liqumfree. The Judge said it was s hatd case, as the licensee was evidently in ignorance o£ the law. The gusts were not the liceosee's guests. The appeal was dismissed, with £5 5s costs.
