. * MAN KILLED IN A GRAVEL PIT. Waitara, March 7.—Yesterday morning a man named W. Hazelhurst, etaployed by Mr H. George, was fatally injured by a fall of earth in a pit at Okoke. Defeased and another matt were removing supports in the pit? when a fall of earth buried him. Wh«n he was extricated he was found to be badly crushed aud one leg broken, and he died on the way to UreDui, where ho was being taken. His mate had a narrow escape. The deceased hailed from Christchurch. Mr Standford held an inquest in the afternoon, when a verdict of " Accidental death * was returned, no blame being attachable to nnyone.
