He considered Mr. Seddnn's services to the Empira deserved recog-1 tuition and his offer of the Eighth Con-f tingept at a critical period of the war had done much to bring New Zealand into prominenee. • He enclosed a subscription of XI Is and suggested thit subscriptions should be from Is to £1 Is. The Mayor said this was jiwli on the lines advocated by the Hon. Thos. Kelly, who )wd also expressed sympathy iv ith tha movement. The M >yor also read a circular from Greymouth ontbessme subjact and also the telegram from Wellington which appeared in Thursday's Daily .News showing what was baiog done in Wellington and the wording of the testimonial adopti 1 there. tion list and the suggestion had b9ei made that any money raised should be I U6ed to purchase a property to be vested for the Seddon family. It was for the meeting to decide what course it would adopt. Mr Roy proposed that thore present be constituted a committee to promote a testimonial and subscription list on the lines of that adopted in Wellinntou. Mr Barry seconded, and after a few remarks in supporr, the motion was carried. Mr Alls worth pointed out that tbe Wellington idea was to include the whole West Ooast, excepting Wanganui. It was for tue meeting to say if it agreed with tins. He favoured tbe Mayor communicating with ths Mayors of other towns in Taranaki and asking them to join in making it a Taranaki testimonial. Mi- Berry agieed that this was desirable. loglewood had already had e meeting. Mr E. M. Smith, M.H.R., thought Taranaki should act together, and or his suggestion the Mayor siid be woulc communicate with the other loca authorities. ' On the motion of Mr Berry, sacondec by Mr Hill, the Mayor and Messri Roy and Allsworth were appointed s committee to deoide whether to adop the Wellington or diaft a new one.
