VOLUNTEER NEWS.
I iiKOTiwANT G. Cock, V.1)., of the Z'sranaki Rifles, is in receipt of a letter from Colonel Newall, commanding the district, covering a letter from the ■ Eight Hon. R. J. S.ddou, Dol'ence Minister, informing him of his appointment as acting cip!;ain,.piy and quartermaster of the 4th Battalion Wellington (TaraDaki) Rifle Volanteers, as from the 23rd October, 1901. Captain Oock has six months allowed in which to go up for his examination, after which the appointment will be confirmed. We understand Captain Okey, V.D., h>is also received his promotion to major, and Colour-Sergeant Okey hia promotion to the rank of S r-geant-Major of the battalion. This leaves the Rifles with only oae officer. We heartily congratulate these officers on their well-deserved promotion.
