The Premier of I'asraar.ia I'-as suggested to Mr Barton that a conference be held between the Oemnionwealth and the State Governments to settle a number of matters, including the Tasmanian, New Zealand, and Pacific cables. Mr Barton will consult the Cabinet. Pending the receipt of the tariff from the Lower House, the Senate has abjaurned for a fortnight. A party of Senators are to view during tbe period thirteen sites in New South Wales for the Federal capital. The Commonwealth revenue through the Customs, if based on the past three months, will yield over XI 0,000,000. Brisbane, February 8. Mrs Goldby has died of plague in South Brisbane. Received 9, 5.25 p.m. Sydney, February 9. Two fresh cases of plague bave occurred, one a produce merchant of Alexandra and the other an emp'oyee at an oysttr siloon in George-street, West Adelaide, February 9. The »ef. rar.dum for the ratepayers to decide whether the Act, which hands the trams of private enterprise for convrraion to the electrical system shou'd|opera'e, resulted in a favourable majority of 6000. The Labour party, who favoured the nationalisation of tramways, were badly defeated.
