At the Police Court yesterday morning, a a Maori named Henare Tarawbite was charged with being illegally on the premises, to wit, the railway station at New Plymouth. He pleaded guilty, bat asked to be dealt with suuimarily, and said he hid come to town with his father, an old man, and was leaving for his home at Otakeho, at once. After hearing the evidence of Mr Day, station-master, the B.M. (Mr Stanford) said he would be convicted, but if he was out of town within 24 hours, he would not be punished.
Mrs McKenzie is advertising for a servant. Temporarily Mrs McKenzie is staying at the White Hart Hotel, where applicants are requested to call before 11 a.m., or between 6 and 7 p.m. Mr W. A pleasing little ceremony took place at the Sash unl Door Company's faotory on Friday afternd ;n, when & presentation was made to Mr. Ken Webster, of the clerical staff, on the occasion of his severing his connection with the company. There were betw. en 30 and 40 employees present, and Mr. H T Ainsworth, in making the presentation, said in c-ime from the working men of th« factory, as a mark of the esteem in which Mr. Webster was held by them. They had always found him most courteous and | obliging in all his dealings with the men, and they felt they could not allow the "cca- ] sien to pass without marking their appreciation of hit many good qialitiea. Mr. AinsworSh then handed Mr. Webster a solid gold albert, the recipient biing he <rtily cheered. Mr. Webster briefly and feelingly thanked the men for their valuable gift, and the gathering dispersed. There was quite a large and very interested orowd on the eastern side of Mr. G. Bonlton's business premises in Devon-street on Friday evening, the attraction being a monster phonograph whose tones could be heard clearly for a considerable distance.

Woolley.- We are glad to learn that amongst those present will be several of the ministers officiating in town, so that it will be one universal welcome of true heartiness and apparently in every way fitting to the worthy recipient, whose advent here is hailed with the greatest pleasure by all sections of the community. The only doubt is as to whether the building will hold all those who wish te be present. One of the troopers of the Eighth Contingent, who left Wellington on Wednesday, detfrmiaed to leave nothing to chance, so he gained an hour's respite just before embarking, and in that hour married the girl of his choice, accepted the many congratulations, bade farewell, and was in his place in the ranks when the bugle sounded. Mr Newton King reports the Bale of Messrs W. and A. Symes' fine grazing runs of 1952 acres situated near Toko to Mr Edward Marfell, of Westown, New Plymouth. In the case of David Dick, charged with arson at (freytuwn North, the Wellington Supreme Court jury was nnable to agree and Dick was discharged. In consequence of the fire on Thursday evening, the Dresdon Piano Company have been obliged to remove temporarily to new premises. Their stock is now located in Webster's buildings, Egmont-street, and a special clearing sale commences from to-day. Both in instruments and sheet music most advantageous terms are being offered, so that the present is a very favourable opportunity for purchasers. The Chief Justice and Lady Stout ou Friday celebrated their silver wedding. The celebration was postponed from the 27th December to allow all their children to be present. _________
