Whitaker, who bad just become lioenste j of the Royal Hotel, was fined £5 and j costs for permitting a Masonio banquet to be held in his house after hours without a permit. The witnesses for the prosecution deposed that when tbe, licensee found it too late to get a permit he informed the banquet committee that he would make no charge and supply no liquor. The magistrate, however, said there had been a brcaeh of the law, and fined defendant £5. This was raised euowquen'ly by oae shilling, to allow an appeal.
