j FIRST APPROPRIATION. The drawing for the first appropriation of £3OO in two Rums of .£l5O, made by the above society, took place a*s tbe Town Hall, New Pfymnuth, on Friday Sonv 200 shareholders wern present, his Worship the Mayor, Mr E. Dockrill, chairman of directors, presiding. In the course of a few remuk< relative to the inssitut'on of thH eoc : e»y, and the objects for which it had been formed, t,h» chairman referrei to a alight informality in the melting regarding the notice, and the directors left it to the meting to say whether it should go on or not. The objection to adjourning it was that it would throw it into the holidays. It was unanimously decided that the meeting ehou'd proceed. The chairman then explained the manner in which tbe ballot for the appropriation would be conducted, and asked for the appointment of scrutineers to conduct the ballot. Mrs F. Webster and Messrs McKellar and Swoutts were then elected.
Oontrary to the usual rule, all the numbe's, whether financial or other wise, were put in, small flit tablets b6iog used instead of marbW.
The chairman stated that the number on the 25th tablet diawn would be the winning number. Th t drawing proceeded, and th • -5Ui drawn proved to be No. 318 ; but eu consulting the books it was found tha*i the owner was nos financially good. The numbers were all put bick, excepting 318, and the winner turned up in No. 484, held by Mr Farry Yates. As be only held one fchtre, another ballot was held to dispose of the second £l5O, and M e winner Of this proved to be No. 299, held by Mr P. B. Ross, of the B.s. Takapuna. In moving a vote of thanks to Mrs Webster and those assisting he-, the chairman a-id 517 shares were taken up out of < ha 600 in the group. The chairman then stated fiat, although the rules provided that the directors should hold office till the first annu il meeting, the directors had decided to resign to give the shareholders the opportunity of electing them. In reply to a question the secretary (Mr. Davies) said the retiring directors were Messrs. Avery, Berry, Dockrill, Shaw, F. Wilson, George and Frost. The two latter declined nomination.
Mr. Jones propose! Messrs. Lepper and E Cock, bub the question of consent being raited and they not being present he withdrew his motion and on the motion of Mr. Oorkill the five retiring directors were re-elected,
Messrs. Oorkill and MoKelUr were then ejected to the remaining vacancies Messrs. Stroutts, Kalsey, and W. J. Shaw were proposed for the position of auditor, but Messrs, Stroutts and Shaw declining Mr, Kelsey wa? drchred elected, A shareholder the question of tbe legality of the election on the ground that the rules stated that the first auditor should be elected by the directors.

A vote of thanks to the obair terminated the meeting. A meeting of the dire3tora was then held.
