In spite of the unfavourable weather there was a very good attendanc iat this popular show at the Theatre Royal on Thursday, somewhere about a tl ousand visitors being present during the day. It was admitted on all sides that the exhibits were a distinct advance upon those of late years, and the Tact that many exhibitors had not previously competed, gave an additional inte est to the show. Messrs. La ; rd and S >a's roses proved st most attractive feat ure, and the extensive varied collection of pot plants exhibited by Mrs. Mitel rinson formed a point of attraction in front of the st&ge. Pot and foli go plants were decidedly an improvement on those of last year, while tho cut flowers were particularly gnod. In table decoratims there were so'ue very pretty designs, as also in the other ornamental closes, much taste and artistic skill being <<isplayed in most of the exhibit*. The children's classes were well compe .ed for and deservo special praise. A memento of Mr. W. Ambury's recent trip Home was seen in a floral representation of the Clifton suspension bridge over which an infinity of pains had been spent, the bridge itself being most faithfully reproduced. Another curiosity which was examined with great interest was a cluster of roses frozen in ice, the effect produced bei'ig very striking. In vegetables thore was about an average show, some however being particularly good. The exhibits of domestic cookery, peserves, wine, etc., reflected groat credit on the ladies of the district, and all had a most appetising appearance. To parents having young children the Kindergart n specimens Had a special attraction, end it is to ba hoped that by the timn another show is held the extension of this excellent system will bring about keener competition, and eusure the average quality of the exhibits being on a higher level of merit, although considering existing circumstances t ie show in this class was very creditable, even in the paper-folding. It is evident the infants at Courtenny-stn.'t school are being taught intelligent'y, and take that interest in the wo;k i which is usually the wherev r kindergarten is in vogue. The exhibits were well arranged, and t e Society is to be congratulated on tie result of the efforts of its executne officer*", ard especially the ladies' com mittee. Mr McGahey, the secretar , and Mr Watkins wer3 particularly active in looking after details, and ia fact, from the president downward', there was a unity of purpose which gave life to the exhibition, and made the show a real pleasure to the visitor . The following is the prize list :

It was perhaps only natural that on such an occasion his Worship should indulge in flowery language, therefore his reference to maintaining Taranaki's reputation as the Garden cf New Zealand did not seem such a stock phrase as usual, especially in view of the rosy outlook as regards the financial success of the show. The Town Band was in attendance during the evening, and played a very good selection of music on the stage.
