FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' PICNIC.
TO BE HELD ON NEW YBAR'd DAY. A further meeting of the Friendly Societies delegates was he'd on Thursday evening, to consider mat ers in relation to the proposed picnic to be ht ld oa New Year's Day. Mr Piper, who arrived in New Plymouth last evening, was intervinwed, and the whole matter explained to bim. The Societies' delegates state that they were quite willing to forego their picnic, sd as not to clash with the citizW picnic, Mr Piper said it would be no uee for them to give way, as the department could not possib,y supply a train for the citiaens' picoic. A smtll train could be run out to Sentry Hill three times in the morning, and agaia in the afternoon. The delegates then asked what would be best to tho done, and Mr Piper said they should go on, as there was no possible chance of the train for the citizens' picnic, In the face of th's, the Friendly Societies have deoided to go on with their pionic, details of which will shortly be advertised.
