LAYING "TOTE" ODDS.
PBOSJiOUTIONS AT DUNBDIN. FSB PBSSB ASSOCIATION. Dunbdik, November 22. The first of the charges of laying totalisa'or odd*, against Peter Grant, of Barne't and Grant, being the sequel of the recent raid by the pol'ca, came on at the Police Court to-day. In addi'im to Mr Giabam, S.M., four J's.P. put in an appearance, and took their seats on the bench. Two witnesses who were railed declined to give evidence which might incriminate them. Mr Graham, P.M, thought he had power to issue a certificate of indemnify, and the Grown Prosecutor produced a telegram from the Justice Department that if the I witnesses gave full evidence they would not be proceeded against. The majority of the. bench over-rule! the magistrate's opinion, and the cisa was dismissed en the ground that the amount paid out was not the same as the tot ilis itor dividend. There are 58 other charges, which were adjourned to sth December.
