STRATFORD NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent,) Work is now being started on the water supply works, and will be vigorously pustu d on. The first instalment of pipes has come to hand, and they are now being placed in position. A rather curious resolution has been passed by the Stratford branch of the Farmers' Union, and by tbem submitted to other branches. It is that the Union should act as land agents for farmers, the secretary who effects the sale to get half the commission, and the Union the other half. lam not a land agent, but it seems to me such aproposal is very illadviaed. The Union should seek first and foremost to advance the most pressing interests of the farmer. If all the secretaries are to turn land brokers, the chanced nro that, in their hunt after commissions, they will neglect the more legitimate, and more important aims and concerns of the Union.
